Coriander is famous World wide as a spice in many foods as well as beverages.India is not a largest producer but also a large importer to supplement their large domestic requirements. Coriander is an annual herb, mainly cultivated for its fruits as well as for tender green leaves.It is native to Mediterranean region.The fruits have a fragnant odor and pleasant aromatic taste, coriander essential oil is used for coca preparation, flavouring liquor and also to mask the offensive odors in pharmaceutical preparations.Coriander belongs to the family apiaceae. It is a smooth erect annual herb 30 to 70 cm High,lower leaves broad with crenatly lobed margins ,upper leaves finely cut with linearly lobes.It is a tropical crop and can be grown throughout the year( except very hot season ie: March-May) a dry and cold weather free from frost especially during flowering and fruit setting stage favours good grain production. It can be cultivated on almost all types of soils. Coriander seed has an aroma that hints of mellow spiciness and a woody nuance. It’s often used to add freshness to soaps, cosmetic, colognes and perfumes.
Uses-
Coriander seeds oil is used to ease the mind and fight fatigue, while warming and calming the digestive system, it relieves rheumatism, arthritis, and more. This oil is antispasmodic, aphrodisiacs, digestive and acts as a stimulant.It has antifungal properties. Since Coriander is a known spices, it’s oil is used to enhance the flavours of confectionary, seasoning and sodas. It’s also used as a flavouring agents for tobacco, gin , liquors.
