Palmarosa is a tall perennial grass which contains a sweet smelling oil of rose like odor. It is tropical plant grow in warm and humid areas and is used in perfumery, food flavouring and medicinal pharmaceutical industries. Palmarosa essential oil has slight similarity of geranium essential oil and can sometimes be used as an aromatic substituent. The plant grows to a height of 1.5-2.5metres, roots are shallow and fibrous, culms erect and nodes swollen. Grass blend are used for extraction of essential oil by the process of steam distillation. The studies on composition of palmarosa oil shows that it is a good source of natural geranial and geranyl acetate.
