Description
About-
It is an annual aromatic herb.The plant grows wild in the temperate Himalayas like in Kashmir valley, Shimla and Nainital hills. Commercially cultivated in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh. It’s height is 60 cm with much divided leaves and small yellow flowers. The essential oil of Davana is brown in color, viscous liquid with rich fruity odor. The oil use in international trade perticularly in USA and Japan. The essential oil is used in flavouring cakes, pastries, tobacco and beverages. The oil contain in the plants maximum observed in winter season’s.
Major constituents-
The oil of Davana contain hydrocarbon, esters, oxigenated compounds, Esters are the major constituents for characteristics smell of Davana. Some amount of Cinnamic acid found in oil. Alcohol part of oil gives more boiling point. In Davana ketone like aromatic compounds are found for characteristics odor, which are isolated from oil like Artemone Maxicana.
Uses-
Davana essential oil traditionally used in ayurvedic medicine like antidepressants, antiseptic, relaxant, and expectorants. Some time used in liquor industries as well as food industries. Davana oil is use in soap industries for a better scant.
