Spearmint, botanically known as Mentha Spicata, is a type of herb that comes under the mint family. Spearmint is mainly native to Mediterranean regions and also found in Asia, Europe, Western and Northern Africa as well as North and South America. The essential oil is extracted from the flowers and leaves of the plant by the process of Steam Distillation and is commonly used for its sweet, minty taste. Spearmint has been a popular flavour in candy, gum and dental products for its breath freshening and favourable tasting properties. In aromatherapy, it has energizing and cleansing characteristics that promote a sense of focus.
