Calamus plant grows in marshy and swampy areas where the soil is damp and wet. It grows in abundance near marshes, ponds and lakes. Calamus plants are harvested by dividing the rhizome clumps and replanting them in shallow waters. Calamus oil is extracted from fresh roots or unpeeled dried roots by the process of steam distillation. The extract is helpful as herbal medicine for treatment of nervous complaints, calamus essential oil is a unique addition to cosmetic applications, personal care formulations, soap and aromatherapy.

Uses:-
Calamus essential oil improves blood circulation and alleviates swelling. It also relieves pain and inflammation. The oil is recommended as a brain tonic which improves memory and is helpful in treating epilepsy. It is also used to treat stomach ailments such as chronic diarrhoea, dysentery and abdominal tumors.
